Back To NY- 2011! Part One NYC

Our first full day of vacation was spent with our friends, Peter and Peg. We took the train to the city to visit the Museum of Natural History where plenty of dinosaur fossils were hanging out. Despite one or two overtired tantrums from Byron the boys enjoyed their day hanging with Uncle Peter and Aunt Peg.

We took the train down from Poughkeepsie and the boys loved their first train ride. part of it was getting to hang out with Peter and Peg... they wouldn't sit with us most of the way there.

The next trek was through the endless subterranean labyrinth of the NYC subway system, but Peter and Walter made the most of it while inventing a song that ran "From the S to the C to the history!"

Even the lobby when you first walked in was impressively large and overwhelming, especially with the crowd of people at opening!

The 'fossil' that you could touch, no they didn't break into an exhibit!

I had no idea that there were prehistoric giant armadillos!

Come back here, you!

Walter and Peter and the Iguanodon.

Peter talking Byron down off the ledge.

Walter and his faces...

Walter having a talk with Peter about the exhibit.

Yes, you may take my picture now!

So that I can make a face now!

Walter's introspective moment...

Walter's goofy moment...

Moments before the meltdown.

Crashed out for a moment...

This interesting mural was just outside of the gift shop. Don't know why i didn't take a picture of the whole thing...

Byron's got the whole world in his hands, oh, he's got the whole world in his hands!

Twisted rock strata.

A large meteorite as seen from the large "spiral walking back in time cosmology history display." Its a spiraling walkway surrounding a large sphere that you walk up in a circle and along the walls is displayed info on the formation of the universe.

The giant squid! Unfortunately I just couldn't manage to show how large it was in a photograph.

The giant (blue?) whale hanging in the oceanography room.

Its stuff like this cross section of a redwood that just kills me with its incredible complexity of time.

Immediately after the sequoia came the old display dioramas of the museum from the 1950's which I thought were as cool as hell. Here a miniature tractor set against a painted background plows a field in the Hudson Valley.

Byron was incredibly possessive of this cup of ice cream that he got when we exited the museum and sat down for a bit. 'Course you would be too if it cost almost $5!

After ice cream and feeling more like himself, Byron took a short stroll with Peter near the outskirts of Central Park where we sat for awhile.

Thanks again for the great day, Uncle Peter and Aunt Peg!
