Back To NY- 2011! Part Three, Kingston To Syracuse

A few short days later we were on our way to Melissa's mom and Syracuse. But not before we had some great times, dinner with Peter, Peg, Cheryl, Tim and Franklin, a meetup at the Bakery, a visit to October Country for what was to become our informal New York comic book shop tour and dinner out with Melissa's former co-workers, Jennie and Theresa and Nick. On our way out of town that day we stopped by Peter's photo studio for a family portrait session. Thanks again, Peter! Thanks for the great time and making our trip memorable, every one!

This old church and the surrounding area were taken in a small town called Preston Hollow that I used to drive through many, many times on Rte 145 in between Saugerties and Middleburgh. In all the time that I had enjoyed these little North Catskills towns, I had never before stopped in one.

Just before we got into Middleburgh there was this pull off and rest area overlooking a large and long lake. Its a popular fishing area for what kind of fish I don't know, but it was deserted when we passed through and walked up to a small gazebo and the stone wall nearby before the path dropped down to the lake. It was overcast and cool and felt as if we were in a small Scottish town overlooking a loch.

The boys had a great time just jumping from stone to stone.

Here let me help you up brother by pulling your head.

Before we knew it we were dropping down through Sharon Springs and the ornate and deserted sulfur spring hotels of the early century and then onto Canajoharie. I decided to drive through Nelliston where my great grandfather used to live and then across the bridge over the Mohawk to Fort Plain.

The Fort Plain lock canal where my great grandfather worked on the barge canal as a buoy tender lighting kerosene lamps in the buoys. Truly a product of another time, I remember many stories from my grandmother of she going out with him as a little girl on the river.
